Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a holistic and scientifically validated method for reducing stress and restoring a sense of balance to one’s life. Integrating principles of Eastern meditative practice with a modern understanding of stress and anxiety, MBSR helps us live our lives more skillfully. It does this by strengthening our capacity to be aware of our reactions in the moment, increasing our ability to handle unpleasant thoughts, feelings and sensations, and enabling us to respond to our circumstances in a more centered way.
This class will be a modified MBSR workshop with slightly shorter meeting times to make it easier for people to fit it in to their days. The class will be taught by Michael Bresnan, Ph.D. Dr. Bresnan is a licensed psychologist and has trained at the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School. He is founder of the Centers for Mindfulness & Insight Meditation in Redding, CT, and Wenham, MA, and has practiced traditional insight meditation himself for over twenty-five years. The class is interactive and will be held from 6:45 to 8:30 PM on 9 Tuesdays—beginning March 24, and concluding on May 26. Class will not meet on April 21. Participants are asked to also set aside about 30 minutes per day, at least 5 days per week, to practice skills learned during the class. As each class builds upon material learned in previous weeks, a commitment to the full 9-session program is required. Tuition for the course, including course materials, is $240 with a $20 discount if registering by March 10.
